              WHEREAS, Chippewa County, Wisconsin has long been a hub of innovation, ideas and an avid supporter of local economic development; and

              WHEREAS, the Chippewa County Economic Development Committee has been working on economic development initiatives with federal, state, and local economic development professionals since the Committee’s formation; and

              WHEREAS, the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) in 2016 created International Economic Development Week (EDW) with the goal of increasing awareness for effective economic development programs that create jobs, advance career development opportunities, and increase the quality of life like those performed by a local economic development organization such as the Chippewa County Economic Development Corporation (CCEDC); and  


              WHEREAS, the IEDC is the largest professional economic development organization dedicated to serving economic developers and the CCEDC is a member of the IEDC; and


              WHEREAS, the IEDC is celebrating its 91st anniversary in 2017 and has marked the dates May 8-13 as Economic Development Week (EDW); and


              WHEREAS, the International Economic Development Council provides leadership and excellence in economic development for communities, members, and partners through conferences, training courses, advisory services and research, in-depth publications, public policy advocacy, and initiatives such as the Accredited Economic Development Organization program and the Certified Economic Developer designation; and


              WHEREAS, Charlie Walker the President/CEO of CCEDC is a Certified Economic Developer as designated by the IEDC; and


              WHEREAS, Charlie Walker and the CCEDC team promote economic well-being and quality of life for Chippewa County by creating, retaining, and expanding jobs that facilitate growth, enhance wealth, and provide a stable tax base; and


              WHEREAS, the Chippewa County economic development team in 2017 has experienced great accomplishments in the Lake Wissota Business Park with the expansion of Star Blends and the Mills Fleet Farm distribution facility, as an example to their work; and


              WHEREAS, economic developers attract and retain high-quality jobs, develop vibrant communities, and improve the quality of life in their regions; and


              NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Chippewa County Board of Supervisors does hereby:


              DECLARE: Chippewa County, Wisconsin welcoming and supportive of local entrepreneurship. Chippewa County, Wisconsin is open to business and for business.


              DECLARE: May 8-13, 2017 as “Chippewa County Local Economic Development Week”.


              COMMEND: Chippewa County Economic Development Corporation and the International Economic Development Council and its officers, staff, and members on their respective anniversaries.


RECOGNIZE: May 8-13, 2017 as “Economic Development Week”.


              REMIND: Citizens of the importance of this economic development profession in advancing career opportunities and improving quality of life.


              BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the County Clerk is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Chippewa County Economic Development Corporation and the International Economic Development Council.


              Forwarded to the County Board by the Economic Development Committee.

Walker stated this resolution is pretty similar to the one they requested last year for the recognition of Economic Development Week. Its purpose is to bring awareness of all the hard work of the unknown players in economic development and let the community know there is a lot of work that goes into economic development.
